Server Consolidation

PolyServe Matrix Server allows customers to consolidate multiple mission-critical applications onto a single, unified cluster. Customers can reduce the overall number of servers and increase the effective utilization of the remaining servers in their data center, while improving the overall system availability. The current alternatives for achieving high availability in the data center are inefficient and costly — both from a CAPEX and OPEX perspective. Matrix Server provides an approach to server consolidation that improves the return on assets and provides customers with flexibility. PolyServe software offers the following three benefits:

  • Reduced Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) — With PolyServe, customers can get more from their investments in servers and storage hardware. Matrix Server reduces the number of servers needed to operate a set of highly available applications. Matrix Server increases the overall server utilization from around 15% to over 50% and improves storage utilization from an average of 25% to over 75%.
  • Reduced Operating Expenditures (OPEX) — Fewer servers means less cost to manage. Customers can efficiently manage a cluster of servers and storage with ease. PolyServe allows customers to save cost by centrally and efficiently managing their servers, storage, and SAN as a single coherent entity.
  • Increased System Uptime — Customers can build fault tolerant clusters of servers and storage using PolyServe Matrix Server. PolyServe software ensures that applications continue to function despite a failure anywhere throughout the cluster.
  • Flexible On-Demand Growth — Adding capacity is easy: simply drop a new server into the cluster and direct existing application load onto the new machine. Because all servers share a common data pool using Matrix Server's Cluster File System, no data migration is required.
